Welcome to our first-ever MOVIE CLUB!
Have you been wanting to join our Book Club but for some reason can’t always read the latest selection? Well, why not try our new movie club instead? It works like this: you watch the movie on your own time on Kanopy* or YouTube as indicated, then join fellow club members in a Zoom meeting on usually the last Wednesday of the month at 7:00 p.m. for a discussion about it. Please note that Movie Club meetings, like the Book Club meetings, are held every other month, alternating with each other (i.e. April: Movie Club, May: Book Club, June: Movie Club, etc.). This club not only opens a new avenue for exploring aspects of life and culture in the Russian Far East and Russia in general but also provides a cinematic alternative to books. When possible, we’ll be showing the movie versions of our Book Club selections. Of course, you can always suggest selections for both.
Our inaugural Movie Club meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, April 29th, beginning at 7:00 p.m. Portland time. We’ll be discussing the PBS Nature documentary Siberian Tiger Quest. For links to “Discussion Questions” and the Zoom connection, scroll down the page. New participants always welcome!
*Kanopy is a free, non-commercial movie streaming service accessible through your public library account or university affiliation.
